Schmid’s felt against the harshness of the winter
The warmth and the colour of felt enriches Schmid’s collection for A/W 2017-2018
It’s known that fashion always looks ahead and as shop windows feature garments on sale this winter, designers are already on the lookout for ideas and materials for the A/W 2017-2018 season.
Schmid, always ready to pick up on the market’s mood and meet its needs, introduces Cervinia felt in its A/W 2017-2018 collection. It’s a new clotted wool felt that’s 100% “Made in Italy” and was unveiled in the latest trade fairs in London, Milan and Paris.
Cervinia felt comes in a basic chromatic range of seven colours, from classic tones of grey to scorched earth, to ultramarine blue. Thanks to its resistance to bending and abrasions this Schmid product has found its main use in
leather goods and footwear production. Its double face nature also makes it particularly suitable for making unlined bags.
The historical curiosity
Legend attributes the invention of felt to the apostle James, brother of John: it’s said that Saint James, to protect the soles of his feet, tried to fill his sandals with sheep’s wool left behind on thorny bushes. He realized that the layer of wool, pressed by his weight and dampened by the rain, hardened and was transformed into a warm and compact material: this humble but precious discovery marked the birth of felt.
