Première Vision and Lineapelle: Schmid’s view
The number of visitors and exhibitors confirms the importance of the Parisian and Milanese venues. But the public is changing and is no longer just seeking products, but also ideas and inspiration.
Once again this year, the two main autumn trade shows – Première Vision (Paris, 13th-15th September) and Lineapelle (Milan, 20th-22nd Septembre) – ended with flattering results.
The tally of the two trade shows
Première Vision hosted 1,898 exhibitors from 53 countries and more than 60,000 visitors from 120 countries. With this tally, the Paris show confirms itself as the most important global venue for the industry.
But Lineapelle also demonstrated its international importance, with the number of visitors increasing 9% from last year. There were more than 21,000 people from 110 countries. A significant increase, consolidated by a record number of exhibitors: 1,241, up 6% from 2015.
Paris and Milano: what is the public looking for?
But what were the characteristics of the two events? In what way were the two shows different?
Our feeling is that the visitors at Première Vision sought mainly ideas and inspiration rather than specific materials for precise products. So a company’s capacity to be creative and inspirational can make the difference, enabling to foster synergies and partnerships.
Instead, the visitors at Lineapelle were attracted by area tendenze (the trend zone), a kind of multi-brand pavilion where the materials and fabrics of various manufacturers, including Schmid, were displayed. An innovation introduced this year that worked out well, offering greater visibility to the companies capable of innovating and grasping the market’s needs.
Schmid’s point of view
«We’ve realised that trade show visitors no longer only look for products,” explains Schmid’s chairman and CEO Paolo Ciccarelli. “Visitors passed between the stands looking for inspiration, ideas, creativity. Companies to be competitive have to be inspirational. Comparing the Parisian and Milanese shows, we believe that Première Vision could improve in that field, drawing inspiration from the great work done at Lineapelle. Having said that, Schmid’s challenge is to always be a step ahead in terms of trends, blending high quality and sustainable prices.”
The award ceremony of the Textile Talent Contest
At Lineapelle (in a purposely dedicated stand) was held the award ceremony of the Textile Talent Contest, created and fostered by Schmid. The participating schools were the London College of Fashion, the Art Future School of Design of Saint Petersburg and Accademia del Lusso of Milan. We’ll have more to say on that shortly, disclosing the names of the winners.
